
A five-day training that will cover leadership development, organizing skills, and an intensive on campaign preparation for veterans and allies. The training will be facilitated by the IVAW Field Organizing Team, the Civilian Soldier Alliance organizers, and professional organizing trainers from a variety of backgrounds. The skills participants will be learning will be taught within the context of preparing to build IVAW’s GI & Veteran Bill of Rights Campaign. We will also spend time on group discussions, strategizing, goal setting, and developing timelines and work plans to build and execute the campaign. ONLINE APPLICATION

This class can be taught as a 12-course, full class or as a 2-4 hour workshop. Breaking Rank goes through a brief world history of soldiers resisting wars and fighting for social justice from within the ranks. It also looks at desertion, combat refusal, mutiny, sabotage, and some instances of mass draft resistance.
Breaking Rank is taught by CIVSOL member Ryan Harvey at the Baltimore Free School, and will soon be available in other cities. Our Breaking Rank: A Brief History of Combat Refusal, Mutiny, and Desertion goes along with this class, as does the Breaking Rank Timeline.

CIVSOL as teamed up with a number of popular and underground artists to support the work of GI resisters and veterans working towards withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan. Artists allow CIVSOL and IVAW to table at concerts, allowing us to talk to service-members and veterans that attend.
Artists such as Tom Morello, Rise Against, Strike Anywhere, The Flobots, Rebel Inc., Son of Nun, Jim Page, Broadcast Live, Built for the Sea, Invincible, and others teamed up with us our benefit CD A Soundtrack for Refusal.

A newly released Wikileaks “Collateral Murder” video has made international headlines showing a July 2007 shooting incident outside of Baghdad in which U.S. forces wounded two children and killed over a dozen people, including the father of those children and two Reuters employees. Two soldiers from Bravo Company 2-16, the company depicted in the video, have written an open letter of apology to the Iraqis who were injured or lost loved ones during the attack that, these former soldiers say, is a regular occurrence in this war.
